Using the Island Explorer Shuttle Bus to navigate around Acadia is a great way to save money on gas, transport large groups or families all together, and to cut down on auto emissions in this beautiful part of the country. Island Explorer - no-fare island bus service

This no-cost transportation goes all over Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, and neighboring village centers for residents and visitors to Mt. Desert Island.

Island Explorer bus service runs from late June through October.  Fall schedules go into effect on September 1.

Free Campgrounds Bus

  • Operates between the Bar Harbor Airport and the Bar Harbor Village Green, connecting five private campgrounds with the village center. 
  •  Runs every 30 minutes throughout most of the day, hourly in the evening, and only hourly in the fall.

Eden Street Bus

  • Operates on Route 3 connecting the hotels there and provides service to the CAT ferry terminal and the Natural History Museum.
  • Runs every 30 minutes from 6:45 am until 3:15 pm.  From 3:155 pm until 10:45 pm, this bus runs every 15 minutes. Fall service operates every half hour. 

Sand Beach Bus

  • Operates between the Bar Harbor Village Green and Sand Beach. It also serves Blackwoods Campground.
  • Runs every half hours through the day, but the evening service to Blackwoods Campground goes every 45 minutes.

Loop Road Bus

  • Operates by starting and ending at the Hulls Cove Visitor Center and provides service to Sieur de Monts, Sand Beach, Wildwood Stables, Jordan Pond, and Bubble Pond. The Loop Road bus operates through Columbus Day.
  • Runs every 30 minutes.

Jordan Pond Bus

  • Operates between Bar Harbor and Northeast Harbor, connecting to Bubble Pond and Jordan Pond. 
  • This is the bus to take to access the hiking trails and carriage roads in Acadia Nationa Park.
  • Runs every 30 minutes.

Brown MountainBus

  • Operates between Bar Harbor and Northeast Harbor along Route 198. 
  • This bus provides access to the carriage roads at Eagle Lake and the Brown Mountain Gate House.
  • Runs every 75 minutes during the summer. There is no Brown Mountain service in the fall.

Southwest Harbor Bus

  • Operates between Bar Harbor and Southwest Harbor serving Somesville, Manset, Seawall, Bass Harbor, and Bernard.
  • Runs every hour.  A limited number of daily trips are offered in the fall 

Schoodic Bus

  • Provides service to Acadia National Park's Schoodic Point, with stops in Winter Harbor, Prospect Harbor, and Birch Harbor. The bus connects with the Bar Harbor-Winter Harbor ferry. 
  • Runs every hour.

Bicycle Express Bus

  • Operates every half hour between the Bar Harbor Village Green and Acadia National Park's carriage road system at Eagle Lake,
  • Runs every thirty minutes from 9:15 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. from June 23 through September 30. In the fall, the last inbound departure from Eagle Lake is at 4:00 p.m.
