Maine's very first micro brewery, The D.L. Geary Brewing Company, sold its first beer, Geary's Pale Ale in 1986. David and Karen Geary had a dream to sell a quality product to the northeast region of the United States. When they opened their operation in 1983 the only other microbreweries were located on the west coast. Their training consisted of many trips to breweries in Scotland and England, researching the ways and recipies of successful brewers who had been drinking and selling beer for much longer than the Geary's. more info
DL Geary Brewing Co. brews eight different types of beer throughout the
year. Its most famous, the Pale Ale, stems from a combination of
British pale ale recipes. The pale ale is known for its crisp and
fruity taste. The Hampshire Special Ale has a strong malt flavor.
London Porter is the brewery's smoothest beer, dark in color and rich
in flavor. D.L. Brewing Company has a few seasonal beers. Its Summer
Ale is similar to a typical German Beer and it is sold between April
and September. Their Autumn Ale emulates British brown ales and their
Winter Ale is Geary's version of an Indian Pale Ale.
You can take a tour of the brewery year round Monday through Friday at
2:30pm. You must make a reservation for a tour. The brewery is located
in Portland, Maine and also has a fun gift shop, selling goods
like glasses, shirts, hats, and of course lots of beer. Come and see
one of Maine's finest at DL Geary Brewing Co.
