Boston Logan Airport was established in 1922 when the local community fought for an airport in Boston. The first aircraft to land at Boston Logan Airport touched down on June 13, 1923. Even during the Great Depression, air travel into and out of Boston Logan Airport continued to grow. The airport has gone through several changes including who actually controls the facility. Boston Logan Airport currently ranks 20th in the United States for the number of passengers it services and 19th in the number of flight movements. Currently the Airport has four distinct, separate terminals – each with its own ticketing, baggage claim and ground facilities.

The airport is so huge that it has its own State Police, Fire Rescue Unit and a church – Our Lady of the Airways. Nearly forty airlines fly into and out of Boston Logan Airport and it serves as the main destination point for travelers wanting to visit the New England area of the United States to include those travelers headed to Acadia National Park.

Boston Logan International Airport also has an exhibit of public art on display that showcases a diverse array of paintings, sculptures, and mosaics.
