Nearly all of Acadia National Park is located on Mount Desert Island, which is a small island off the middle coastal area of Maine. Because the coast is so rocky and rugged, this provides an ideal area for rock climbing.

There are many exciting climbs directly on the water's edge with sound effects of crashing waves and occasionally a foghorn. Acadia is famous for it coarse-grained pink granite which is excellent for climbing. In the Park, climbing is considered a mix of traditional climbing and sport climbing. Check with the locals to find some of the top rope routes like Otter Cliffs and the Story of O. The Story of O is a 250-Foot crack climb, which is located on Champlain Mountain inside the Park.
