West Quoddy Marine Research Station
West Quoddy Marine Research Station is located near Quoddy Head State Park in Maine, near Lubec. This is a research facility that is open to the public and has various exhibits, films and displays about the area's diverse plants and animals. This is a great place to learn more about the whales that are sometimes seen off the coast.
The West Quoddy Marine Research Station is a non-profit organization whose focus is on biological research on the area's varied plants and animals. From this base, scientists are able to study the unusual habitats and their occupants that are prevalent in the region. The facility also acts as a rescue and rehabilitation center for marine wildlife and mammals. In the summer, the organization sponsors an education program for schoolchildren from elementary through secondary levels.
West Quoddy Marine Research Station has a Visitor's Center, which is open to the public daily from 9 am to 5 pm, from June through October. The Visitor's Center is instrumental in educating the public about the activities at the Station. It also brings into focus the unique surrounding environment. Each week, the Station sponsors a guided nature walk.
