If you are looking for a place with little mass communication, no violence, no traffic lights, no need for keys, heart-warming and welcoming locals, and awe-inspiring views of the Atlantic Ocean, Acadia and Mount Desert Island, then plan a visit to the Cranberry Islands. more info

The Cranberry Islands can be found near the southern end of Maine’s Mount Desert Island. There are actually five islands that compose the Cranberry Islands. However, only two of the islands are home to year-round residents. It is easy to expect to see the red berry (cranberries) in the area and you will not be disappointed.

The two year round populated islands have a total of nearly 120 residents. During the summer months, their total population can increase to nearly 600. A ferry/mail boat combination runs from Bar Harbor to Great Cranberry and Little Cranberry six times daily during the summer. Both Great Cranberry and Little Cranberry have a post office, church, library, school, historical society, and a small general store.

The Cranberry Islands are attractive to visitors because of their size combined with serene country lanes, active fishing harbors, rocky shorelines, pine trees and wildflowers.
