Beginning near the Bar Harbor Town Pier and gently winding along the oceanfront, is the Shore Path. Surprisingly, this wonderful walking path is rarely crowded and can be a great place to escape the throng of tourists that frequent downtown Bar Harbor. As you leave the pier behind, you can enjoy a majestic view of the open Atlantic Ocean and see the Porcupine Islands in the distance.

Bar Harbor is a town rich in history. By 1880, it was already a tourist destination with nearly thirty hotels. The well to do came here to vacation as well and they built elaborate estates with manicured lawns and gardens. These estates can be viewed as you continue along the Shore Path. Please stay on the Path as you venture past, as these estates are private residences.

Of course, the shoreline is public, so take your time and enjoy the scenery, explore a tidal pool, or just take advantage of the park benches along the path to sit and relax.
