A unique feature found not far from Bar Harbor, near Trenton, Maine, is the Acadia Zoo. On a mere fifteen acres, you will be able to view 45 different species of animals. These animals include Maine natives such as white-tailed deer, foxes, porcupines, local birds and everyone's favorite, the moose, as well as exotic wildlife including leopards, reindeer, monkeys and gibbons.

An old barn has been renovated into an indoor rainforest exhibit. Here you will see animals normally found in a rainforest including some species of mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and birds. This exhibit serves to educate and to provide a home for those animals that were endangered in their previous homes. This is an opportunity to witness an endangered ecosystem.

You can get up close and personal with some domesticated mammals and birds in a petting area. You can even have a moose eat from your hand!

The Acadia Zoo is open May-December, from 9:30 am until dusk, daily.
