Hancock County Maine encompasses approximately one-half of the Down East Acadia region. There is much more to Hancock County than Acadia National Park. This spectacular area was carved by glaciers thousands of years ago. The geology of the area includes a fjord, countless islands, and cobble-stoned coastlines. There are many things to see and do in the picturesque communities of this county.

Hancock County Maine is home to many small communities, the most notable of these are Bar Harbor, Castine, Deer Isle, Ellsworth, Stonington and Blue Hill.

Bar Harbor has stonewall-lined roads and majestic views of Cadillac Mountain. Surrounded by Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor has been a summer vacation destination for over one hundred years. There is a wide diversity of activities for anyone visiting this part of Hancock County.

Located on a peninsula in East Penobscot Bay, Castine is a small coastal village that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This is a great place to view the architecture and crafts of the past. You will find more than one hundred historic markers in this town.

Deer Isle and Stonington are great places to shop with their quaint shops and specialty boutiques. The Colonial Black Mansion is located in Ellsworth. The area around Blue Hill is abundant with New England history, crafts, antiques, fine dining establishments, inns and art galleries.

All of Hancock County is charming with its small villages, peninsulas and water activities.
