Thunder Hole is a deep, steep-sided area along the coast that is surrounded by water and beautiful foliage. Be sure to visit this spot when the ocean is roaring. Thunder Hole in Acadia National Park is a prime example of how the sea and the land combine to form incredible natural wonders that fascinate and inspire. This coastal rock crevice is so uniquely formed in the rugged granite cliff, that when the ocean roars, the collision of water and land results in the sound of thunder. In addition to the sound, a huge spray of water is often thrown into the air. Travelers may think that they are in the mist of a rainstorm, for here they will hear the thunder and feel the moisture. All that is missing is the lightning.
