Bus is from the Latin word “omnibus” which means “for everyone”. Therefore, if you want to take “everyone” together to Acadia National Park, you may want to consider using the Island Explorer Shuttle Buses. This is a great way for all members of your group, even the one who usually does the driving, to enjoy Acadia. It is also a great way to transport groups too large to ride together in a standard car or van. more info

With eight bus routes from the various neighboring villages, the Island Explorer Shuttle Buses provide a convenient service to the different facilities within Acadia National Park. The buses are wheelchair accessible, which makes travel into the Park easy for everyone.

The eight routes include transit services between locations in Bar Harbor to campgrounds, to the ferry terminal and the Natural History Museum, to Cadillac Mountain, Otter Cliffs, and Sand Beach. This service connects Acadia's carriage roads, hiking trails and beachs with each other and with the surrounding communities.

One route begins and ends at the Hulls Cove Visitor Center and provides service to Sier de Monts, Sand Beach, the Wildwood Stables, Bubble Pond, and Jordan Pond. It is possible to travel the entire route of the famous Loop Road on one of the Island Explorer Shuttle Busses.

The best thing about traveling by the shuttle buses is that the vehicles run on propane – a clean operating fuel that prevents additional pollution to the environment. The shuttles are free and operate from early summer to early fall each year. Anyone who is planning to ride the bus must obtain a Park Pass for his or her group.
