Rules & Regulations
To make your visit to Acadia National Park pleasant and enjoyable and to ensure that the park resources are properly protected, you should follow all Acadia National Park's rules and regulations. If you have any specific questions or are confused regarding any rule or regulation, please ask a Park Ranger for clarification.
There are Rules and Regulations that are more specific depending on the activity, i.e. hiking, biking, horseback riding, scenic driving, etc., that may not be included in the following list.
The following is a very brief overview of Acadia National Park Rules and Regulations.
- All accidents involving any property damage or personal injury must be reported to the Park Rangers.
- Alcohol is not permitted in parking lots, public buildings, or on any designated swimming beaches.
- No motorized vehicles are allowed on the park trails or on the carriage roads. Motorized wheelchairs are permitted on the carriage roads.
- ATV's are not allowed anywhere in the Park.
- Bicycles, horses and snowmobiles are allowed only on designated routes.
- Camping is permitted only in designated
- Fires are only allowed in designated fire pits.
- Firearms cannot be used in the Park and should be unloaded and packed away.
- Fishing is only permitted in accordance with State of Maine laws.
- No hunting or trapping allowed.
- In-line skates, rollerblades and skateboards are prohibited.
- Pets are not to be left unattended and should be on a leash or physically under control at all times.
- Picnicking is allowed only in designated areas.
- In compliance with Federal Law, seat belts are required while riding in any motor vehicle.
