Acadia National Park is one of the most visited vacation destination spots in the United States. The majority of National Parks are not very welcoming to pets, but when you are traveling to Acadia, you can bring your best friend with you. Acadia is ranked second among National Parks for sights to see and places to walk or hike with dogs. more info

Acadia National Park ranks very high on the tail-wagging meter. Dogs are permitted on most of the miles and miles of hiking trails and on all of the carriage roads. Dogs are also allowed at both Blackwoods and Seawall Campground. It is required that all dog owners pick up after their pets and properly dispose of dog waste.

Dogs are not allowed on any sand beach or on any of the steeper hiking trails that utilize ladders. Neither dogs nor  people are allowed in any body of water that are used as public water supplies. The Park Rangers also request that your pet not accompany you to any Ranger led activity.

Your best friend should always be on a short leash – 6 feet in length and attended at all times. There is one exception to the leash rule. There is an area, which is privately owned within Acadia where dogs are allowed off lead. This area is located near Seal Harbor and is called Little Long Pond. So when your best friend wants some time to "play off lead" take a break at Little Long Pond.

Seeing Eye dogs and other service dogs are allowed anywhere in the Park.
