Pemetic Mountain
Early Native Americans referred to the area now encompassing Acadia National Park, Pemetic, which means sloping land. The name now refers to a 1,248 foot summit, which provides a dramatic 360-degree panoramic view. It is worth the somewhat strenuous hike up Pemetic Mountain to get a glimpse of this view.
At a height of 1,234 feet, Pemetic Mountain is the fourth highest mountain in Acadia National Park. You can park at Bubble Pond and then begin your ascend of the mountain by following the markers. The hike up Pemetic Mountain is at first difficult, then more moderate and finally at the top it becomes easy.
Traveling from dense forests to wind blown smooth cliffs you will be able to enjoy panoramic views in all directions. You will be able to see Bubble Pond and Cadillac Mountain to the northeast; Jordon Pond to the west; Eagle Lake to the north; and to the south, great views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Cranberry Islands.
Using the log handrails, steps and even a ladder, you will climb to an elevation of approximately 950 feet and it may take around 2 – 3 hours to complete. The total round trip length is just over four miles.
