Jordan Pond House was built in 1847 by the Jordans, a farming homestead situated near the pond that now bears its name. In the 1870’s, Melvan Tibbetts turned the house into a unique restaurant with large fireplaces and dining rooms made of birch bark. It was later purchased by John Rockefeller, Jr., who passed it to the US National Park Service to preserve its heritage. Since the 1940’s, the Jordan House has been part of the famed Acadia National Park, continuing to entrance visitors with all sorts of culinary delights. However, fire destroyed the original building in 1979, encouraging private funders to contribute to the construction of a replica.
