Cadillac Mountain
To get to the highest point along the east coast of the United States, you should travel to Acadia National Park, and make your way to the top of Cadillac Mountain. With a height of 1,530 feet, Cadillac Mountain looms above all other mountains, both in the Park and along the eastern coast. From this height, on a clear day, you can see forever, which includes a view of Frenchman Bay and the Porcupine Islands.
Rather due to its height or because of it geographical location, Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park is thought by many to be blessed by the first rays of sunshine during particular times of the year – usually from October until March. To start your day with the first beams of sunlight in the United States, you can make your way to the top of this granite mountain by driving up the narrow, winding road for a distance of 3.5 miles. Alternatively, you can take one of the various hiking trails that can get you to the summit. One of these trails also has exhibits along the path that explains the natural and human history of the area. Cadillac Mountain is also known as a great place to watch for hawks in the fall, which are migrating south for the winter. So if you are a bird watching, or just simply appreciate nature, make sure to include Cadillac Mountain as one of your stops while visiting Acadia National Park.
